Hi I have heatd that Mono is the OpenSource implementation of the .NET standard. Is that right ? I am really curious about this. And one more thing , can you name the biggest project carried out by Mono ? ( I have heard Orkut uses Mono. Is it ? ) Thanks [/ltr] [ltr] Home: Arch Linux, AMD X2 4600, 2 GB, 250 GB, [/ltr] |

About Orkut ,I heard too, but there's no actual proof for it howevernetcraft shows IIS/6.0 on Linux and I don't really know how could it be possible! The most respected project implemented by Mono is iFolder which has already won some prizes and was embraced by the open source community iFolder is a file sharing application for Linux, Windows, and Mac. Using iFolder workgroup features, you can easily: * Share files across multiple computers * Share files with other users Used with an iFolder Enterprise server, you can: * Maintain a backup of your files on an iFolder Enterprise server * Share files with other users and computers * Restore deleted files from Backup check out <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ifolder.com">http://www.ifolder.com</a><!-- m --> also this article from ACPmag and finally Arstechnica found mono as the Development Application of the Year have fun with .Net and Mono [/ltr] |

Thanks for the complete reply. One more thing. I hear that mono supports the Open-Source languages such as Python , Perl or PHP. I installed mono but I don't see such a thing in it. Is it embedded support or some sort of plugin or add-in ? [/ltr] [ltr] Home: Arch Linux, AMD X2 4600, 2 GB, 250 GB, [/ltr] |

[ltr].Net was initially planned to be a cross-language developement framework and mono is a clone of .net so it should have the same capability BUT this feature is not even fully implemented on .net yet, of course mono is behind .net in this way.
However porting other languages to mono (some 30 different languages) is stated in Mono Roadmap and is being done little by little. 4 now C# and recently some of vb.net was implemented but looks like we should w8 for others [/ltr] |
